PROJECT 1

In a group of 5, We were required to carry out precedent study of a truss bridge. Using the information we obtained from the precedent study, we were required to design and construct a fettucini bridge of 600mm clear span and maximum weight of 150g. The bridge will be tested to fail.Other than aesthetic value, the design of the bridge must be of high efficiency. In order to achieve higher efficiency, we need to analyse and evaluate material strength and stractural analysis of the truss

EXTENSION OF A R.C BUNGALOW

PROJECT 2

The project is an integrated component where it involves structural theory, force calculation and basic structural proposal. This project is designed to allow the demonstration of knowledge and understanding of building structure.

Part 1 of the project involved us Working in a group of 8 members, each group was to obtain floor plan of a maximum 3 storeys bungalow, preferably 2 storeys. Students are required to carry out structural framing and prepare structural drawings for the bungalow. Structural plans were to  include foundation plan, ground floor plan, first floor plan and roof plan.

Part 2 involved the following tasks

1. Propose an extension work to the bungalow that meet the following criteria,

         a. The area of extension should not exceed 30% of the existing floor area (max 100m2 each floor)

         b. The extension should be sideway.

         c. The extension should be of two storeys (foundation plan, ground and first floor plan and roof plan).

2. Frame the extension by using appropriate structural members i.e. columns, beams, slabs, or trusses.

3. Identify and quantify the load acting on the structure.

4. Analyse the structure.

         a. To analysis minimum 6 beams (each beam must subject to different types of load, i.e. UDL from one or more than  one slabs, beam with point load(s) or combination of UDL and PL)

         b. To analysis minimum 4 columns (from roof to foundation level)
