This module intends to inform the student of the relevant visual and physical properties of a wide range of building materials. It also encompass the broad environmental debate by including energy saving and recycled materials. For each material the module describes the manufacturing process, salient properties and typical uses of these materials, with the aim of ensuring their appropriate application within the awareness of the suitability of the physical and chemical properties as well as its ecological impact. Students will undergo a series of continuous assessments such as project and tests to ascertain the objective and outcome of the module is achieved

This module introduces fundamental skills for the appropriate communication of architectural design. It engages different means of visualization and expression of space and spatial ideas through architectural drawings and modelling to prepare students with the skills required in Design projects. These skills are taught through a series of freehand, constructed drawing, and architectural modelling held both outdoors and in the studio

Architectural Design Studio 1 is structured as an introduction to architectural design. It introduces architectural design as an expression of the individual perception of ‘self’. Students will undertake a series of studio based exercises and assignments that introduce the principles and methods in design thinking through the design a basic object to a private retreat for their own habitation. The first project deals with the interpretation ofthe ‘self’ through the making of an object; the second project explores the expression of the ‘self’ throughpersonal experiences which informs the modification of an existing simple architectural space; and the thirdproject involves the design of an individual space in relation to the site. The design projects will apply differentmethods of making and drawing as generative tools for design
